In 1973, Cineworld began construction on its first megaplex cinema, which was eventually named Odeon Movies Greater Manchester. This theatre was later renamed as Odeon Cinema Rochdale and it opened in 1977. In 1995, Cineworld acquired Star Cinemas Ltd., which gave the company ownership of all seven cinemas that were operated by Star Cinemas Ltd.. The following year, Cineworld merged with VUE Entertainment Group plc to form Premier League International Holdings Limited (PLIH). As part of this merger, PLIH acquired Century 21 Theatres Ltd.,
