Joanna Gearyoremus Bio
Joanna Gearyoremus is a writer, teacher and activist. She was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1969. Gearyoremus earned her B.A. from Amherst College in 1991 and her M.F.A from the University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop in 1997.
Since 1998, joanna gearyoremus has been a lecturer at California State University Northridge, where she currently teaches writing and literature. Her work has appeared in The New Yorker, Granta, The Paris Review, and other publications. She is the author of two books of poetry, Becoming (1998) and How to Be a Person Who Matters (2004), and a novel, The Infinitor (2006).
Gearyoremus has also taught at Syracuse University and Brown University, among other schools. In 2007 she won the Los Angeles Times Book Prize for Fiction for her novel The Infinitor.

What was it like growing up in the UK?
Joanna Gearyoremus grew up in the UK and has always had a passion for writing. She attended university in London, where she studied Creative Writing. After graduating, she worked as a freelance writer for a while before quitting her job to focus on her own writing.
